Kitchen Remodel Day 6

It's New Years Eve and exhaustion has set in and we are now sick of fast food.  This is the 6th day of our kitchen remodel and needless to say, we are not pros. Duh, right?

Well last night we realized that we didn't get enough tile, so we went back to Lowe's (for the umpteenth time) to get the rest of the tile, which is weird because Cassie and I both knew how much we needed and we both overlooked the fact that we were two boxes short.

Oh well, we now had enough tile to start the day.

The goal today was to set the tile, screw in the large countertop, get the sink in, and paint the cabinet doors.  2 out of 4 isn't bad, right?

We were down to the final edging pieces of the tile when all of the sudden the thin-set vanished and was no more. So knowing that it's NEW YEAR'S EVE and that everyone else is ringing in the new year with friends and nice parties, Cassie and I, covered in thin-set, scramble to see if we have any more. NOPE... none in the house, and Lowe's and every other possible place closed 3 hours ago.

So we are delayed yet another day.... shocking, isn't it?!?!

This is a pic of when the day started...

And this is how the day ended... see I told you we weren't pros, so it would be in your best interest to not call us to remodel your kitchen.

We got the countertop secured and screwed in. Wohoo. A evening of work and we screwed in the countertop.

By the way, if it weren't for my good friend, Jason Mahurin, who I now call "the Do it Yourself Hotline" we would 3 days further behind schedule.

We are not using the new cabinet for an ironing board, we needed it to glue the laminate trim to the edge of the countertop.
Nothing like ringing in the new year covered in thin-set.

Kitchen Remodel Day 5

Day 5 and we are still not even close to being finished, but we are a lot closer than when we started. However, to put a disclaimer on that, we haven't taken off any days of work, so we only have worked on it for 3 evenings and one full day.

Today is Sunday and after going to bed last night around 12a. from working on this kitchen I (Kasey) had to be at Westside's Overland Park Campus at 7a. to play drums. So, needless to say, I'm tired as I'm typing this at 12:02a. on Sun Night/Mon. Morning.

I have an awesome wife who gets in and works just as hard as anyone on these projects. You are awesome Cassie, and ILYMISIF via the weblog!

Today we cut the countertops and installed the small countertop. Well, I glued it, I still need to screw it in.

Now we start to see the progress.

It's getting close. But wait, a snag. Oh, a huge snag. We only bought 6 boxes of tile, putting us at a total of 8, and we knew that we were going to need 9 or 10 total. We must have miscounted at the store.

Well, everything is on hold until tomorrow. Then we will finish the tile and let it cure and finish installing the countertops and get the sink in... It will be nice to hear the water run again.

Oh, I'll even show you our cool inventing for the icemaker tubing from the floor! So stay tuned, and don't turn that dial.

Kitchen Remodel Day 4

We have the floor started and are going to lay down the last couple of pieces of backerboard. By the way, Lucy, our dog, stays away from the kitchen. She is freaked out with all this work and cautiously walks by.

Hey look, we have a cabinet installed. It's our first cabinet install!

Kitchen Remodel Day 3

Ok we're on day 3. Well we were on Day three Friday. And were looking at a floor that needed to be finished being removed, a refrigerator that was needing to relocate and cabinets awaiting their next coat.
We have moved the fridge and now we're tearing out the last of the floor.
This will all look different tomorrow
You have to begin with the end in mind right? Well it's hard to see that here.
Where did the fridge go?
Oh, now there's a convenient place for it! Every man's dream!

Kitchen Remodel Day 2

Day 2 and Lucy is so freaked out she won't leave my side.

We have the sink out. I did not expect to spend the most the night taking that out. My motto is obviously "harder not smarter."  40+ years of gravity and porcelain kept that stubborn sink from moving. Boy I'm glad they don't make these like they used to.

Goodbye Countertop. Hello 40 years of stuff underneath.
The old cabinet is coming out. It's the beginning of the end for this unit.

Going...
...Going
...GONE!!!

We're Gluttons for punishment!

As you can see we have decided to put ourselves through another remodeling project. Hopefully this won't take as long as the bathroom.

Here are Day 1 photos of our END of YEAR Kitchen Remodel!
We are:
  1. Taking out the cabinet beneath the old stovetop hole and going to place the oven there.
  2. Replacing the countertops.
  3. Painting the cabinets white.
  4. Replacing the backsplash.
  5. Installing a floor cabinet.
  6. Replacing the peel and stick floor with ceramic tile.

Way to Go Saddleback!

Rick Warren and Saddleback church are bringing the Christmas story to America. Here is what they are doing:

Both of their 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM CHRISTMAS SERVICES (from Saturday night) was recorded by the Fox News network to broadcast nationally on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You could even watch Saddleback’s Christmas services on the Internet at www.saddleback.com.

Not only has Saddleback marketed their message to FOX news, the US Armed Forces Network will broadcast “The Purpose of Christmas” (last year’s Saddleback service) for all troops around the world to watch!

All Wal-Marts and Sam’s Club are broadcasting “The Meaning of Christmas” a message by Rick Warren, along with Christmas carols by the Salvation Army, on all their in-store TV screens. That right there is amazing. I might go to Walmart to see it.  That's awesome!

Good Morning America is broadcasting our roundtable about “The Good News of Christmas” on Christmas Day.

Way to go Rick Warren. Keep fulfilling your purpose in your generation!

Bitter MU fans

Bitter MU fans take revenge on the team they think took their place in the Cotton Bowl. When it was Illinois who was given them their spot.

I've been had.

MU fans sabotaged my office.

Jackson and Lucy

You won't believe what we went through to get them to pose. Much less pose with bows.

Merry Christmas
